Financial Aid
You must fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to receive federal aid. The FAFSA is available from your high school counselor, any financial aid office, or the public library. The U.S. Department of Education also has information on various types of financial aid resources.
Types of Financial Aid include:
- grants and scholarships, which is money that you do not have to pay back.
- work-study is money earned from work that you use to help pay for educational expenses.
- loans are money that you borrow and must repay (with interest).
- Educaid has a list of other available to college-bound students.
The California Student Aid Commission, administers State aid for California resident students with financial need as determined by the information contained on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). In addition, the well funded Cal Grant programs require academic qualification as derived from the Student Aid Commission Grade Point Average (GPA) Verification Form. Both the FAFSA and GPA Verification must be postmarked by March 2nd each year.
