California Student Opportunity and Access Program, otherwise known as
Cal-SOAP, is a postsecondary information and academic enrichment
program. There are currently seventeen Cal-SOAP consortia, each serving
a specific geographical area of the state. Each consortium works toward
the common goal of providing information about postsecondary education
and financial aid, and to raise the achievement levels of students from
low-income families, geographic areas with documented low-eligibility
or college preparation rates, or families in which they would be the
first to attend college. Working under the auspices of California
Student Aid Commission, the Cal-SOAP consortia represent nearly every
aspect of the educational community. The University of California,
California State University, California Community College, Independent
Colleges, public and private secondary schools, and local non-profit
community agencies each contribute to the consortia team. Members of
the Southern San Joaquin Valley Cal-SOAP consortia include the
following:

Through a network of trained Tutors and College Peer
Advisors, the project provides support for school academic and
counseling staffs. College Peer Advisors/Tutors work with students in
small groups and on a one-to-one basis to share their college
experiences, provide academic support, and help students complete
applications for college and financial aid. In addition, these college
students will serve as role models for the younger students while
providing personalized attention. For further information contact
