    Overview of the Proficiency



  • Repair/troubleshoot basic platform-specific problems such as adjusting control panels, turning off extensions, removing start-up programs, ejecting stuck disks, and/or checking network and hardware connections as district policy allows.
  • Set up, activate, restart, shut down computer, and deal with freezes and hangs.
  • Possible examples to include in portfolio:
  • Write a narrative description showing your knowledge and experience with basic troubleshooting. Include:
    • At least one occurrence where you trouble shot your computer at home or school.
    • If you are an IBM user, explain how you use CTRL, ALT and DELETE to go to the Task Manager. Explain how a program that is not responding can be shut down by the “end task” command.
    • If you are a MAC user explain "Force Quit" and ALT, APPLE, ESC.
    • What do you do if you cannot access the Internet? Do you verify with other teachers at your site that other computers will also not access?
    • What do you do if you cannot print from your classroom computer? What are the things that you check on the printer first?
    • Explain the correct way to notify your school’s computer technicians if you have a problem with your computer.
