Proficiency 1.11

    Overview of the Proficiency:

  • Describe an effective lesson using technology to meet content standards. The lesson must include the following:
  • Content to be taught.
  • Alignment with the state content standards.
  • Student learning styles and/or special needs. (This one is often left out in the portfolios we receive)
  • Selection of relevant, effective software and hardware.
  • Technology resources and learning environments available in the classroom, library, media centers, and computer labs, and other locations.
  • Assessment of student learning.

    Possible examples to include in portfolio:

  • Explain how you addressed all of the issues and include appropriate artifacts from a single lesson/unit in portfolio
  • Your narrative should include a detailed description of your lesson including all bullets listed in above proficiency overview. If your lesson was found on the Internet please note class modifications you made and include a copy of the original lesson.

  • Apple Learning Interchange -- the Apple Learning Interchange -- a web resource that is sponsored by Apple Computers that has a variety of K-12 technology enhanced lesson plans to view and use.
  • Blue Web N' -- an online library of 1800+ outstanding Internet sites categorized by subject, grade level, and format.
  • Education World -- this site provides excellent lesson plan resources for K-12 teachers as well as articles on the latest research on what's happening in education.
  • Teacher Tap -- the Teacher Tap is a free, professional development resource that helps educators address common technology integration questions by providing practical, online resources and activities.

  • Lesson Plan Template -- this link provides a template for creating your Level I lesson plan that includes all the components needed for the completion of this section.
  • The Whipping Boy Lesson Plan -- this MS Word document shows a sample technology Language Arts lesson for grades 4th through 5th. The lesson is based upon the book The Whipping Boy by Sid Fleischman.
