5 Year Priorities by County

for High Quality Professional Staff Development in Region 8

*Kern* Offer high quality staff development that models strategies for implementing a standards-based curriculum.

*San Luis Obispo*

Define a system of embedded, teacher-targeted peer interactions that improve instruction through knowledge of Content Standards and exchange of related ideas, practices, and implementation strategies.

*Santa Barbara*

Provide teachers and support staff with transformational, intense, in-depth, and ongoing training focused on increasing student achievement in language arts (especially reading comprehension) and mathematics.

*Ventura*

Help teachers and support staff to become fully and effectively acquainted with California?s Board-approved Content Standards, K-12.

Communicate staff development opportunities throughout Region 8 using available technological systems.

*San Luis Obispo*

Show teachers at all phases of their careers how to become increasingly reflective about their professional practice through the examination of student work in an environment where peer input/coaching is readily accessible. *Santa Barbara*

Implement Content and CSTP standards by elevating teachers? content knowledge, defining instructionally meaningful uses for technology, and leveraged relationships among the various Content Standards (including history/social science and science).

*Ventura*

Assist schools in collaboratively designing and implementing whole-school change, focused on implementing standards-based instructional practice.

Emphasize the improvement of reading/literacy skills among high school students.

*San Luis Obispo*

Foster the coordination of services and resources region-wide, orchestrating a ?triage? system for supplying schools with required additional information and programs.

*Santa Barbara*

Establish a region-wide network for instructional development among teachers in the key academic areas of language arts, math, science, and social science.

*Ventura*

Align advertisement and delivery among services by regional providers (e.g., AVID, BTSA, COE, CTAP, IHE, SB1882, S-4, et al.) to schools with the greatest need.

Provide professional staff development in the use of assessment to evaluate and inform instruction.
